In 1996 a small group of inquirers and catechumens met at Dn. Timothy Wilkinson's home for Great Vespers under the direction of Fr. Philip Nixon and with the blessing of our Bishop, Sayidna Joseph. February of 1997, we received a blessing to begin weekly reader's services as a mission. Fr. Philip Nixon continued to provide spiritual leadership, catechumenate classes, Divine Services, and sacramental services until May of 2000. Much of our initial formation and support came from the faithful at our sister parish in Twin Falls, Idaho, St. Ignatius Orthodox Church.
Our first home was the Catholic Student Center across from Boise State University. During this time we had additional assistance and guidance from Very Rev. David Ogan (missions and prison ministry), Very Rev. John Finley(missions and evangelism), and Very Rev. John Reimann (chanting and music). We moved from the Catholic Center into a house fall of 1997. Fall of 1999 we moved into our current building on North 25th.
May of 2000, Dn. Patrick O'Grady was ordained to the Holy Priesthood and assigned to the mission. Thus began the beginning of our worship following the Liturgical year, with a full sacramental life. Soon thereafter, we submitted three possible names for the mission to our bishop. With the guidance and love of Christ and our Bishop the name given to our mission was Holy Transfiguration. Thus our feast day for our parish is August 6th, Holy Transfiguration.
March of 2002, one of our own, Mark Fenn was subordained to the Subdiaconate. He served under Father Patrick O'Grady. January of 2005, Sbdn. Mark Fenn was ordained to the Holy Diaconate. Father Patrick then serving two parishes, Holy Transfiguration in Boise and our sister parish, St. Ignatius of Antioch in Twin Falls. Dn. Mark was ordained to the Holy Priesthood January 2006 and assigned to Holy Transfiguration. He has been serving the Divine Services weekly and the needs of our community since.
We give thanks to God for His love and providential care through His Church, His saints, His clergy, our founding families, and our sister parish St. Ignatius in Twin Falls.
